Target Corp. is preparing to introduce new technology to lock and unlock store shelves from a smartphone in a bid to curb theft and improve the shopping experience.
Once in place, staff could unlock in-store cases more quickly than having to manually open them with keys, Chief Stores Officer Adrienne Costanzo said during an internal meeting with staff on Thursday. The retailer may also offer the option to employees of its Shipt delivery service, who fulfill online orders, and users of its paid membership program.
